Marriage records [microform], 1837-1911.

Marriage records may include bonds, books, certificates, licenses, marriage registers or ministers' returns. Indexes to marriage records may be available. Marriage licenses were issued by the county clerk upon completion of the bond and give permission for a marriage ceremony to be performed. The license was presented to the person performing the marriage, either the minister, judge, etc. Marriage certificates signify that the marriage occurred. The certificate was completed by the minister or judge and then given to the marrying couple. Marriage registers or minister's returns were filed after the marriage was performed by either the minister or judge who performed the ceremony. It was to be sent to the county clerk where the marriage was performed within twelve months after the marriage occurred.

Carroll, the eighty-seventh Kentucky county, was formed in 1838 from parts of Gallatin, Henry, and Trimble Counties. It is named for Charles Carroll, and Carrollton is the county seat.
